Graham Barnes' graduate education was at Abilene, Harvard and Boston Universities. In 1968 he founded the Fellowship for Racial and Economic Equality and in 1973, Southeast Institute. From 1973 to 1978, he also was adjunct lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry of the Medical School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A clinical member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association since 1976, he was certified by the State of North Carolina as a Marital and Family Therapist in 1981. In 1978 he began devoting considerable time to teaching in psychotherapy training programs in twelve European countries.
